In early April of this year Matt (our son and my partner of photography) proposed to his lovely lady; Shannon. We are so delighted, excited and happy for them.
So wedding plans are in the works. Wedding is set for June 11, 2011. Location has been chosen, Santa Rosa, on a 4 acre ranch with a big barn. The gown has been selected. Lots of details have been covered, some will be adjusted as the plans move forward.
One of the biggest decisions was hiring the wedding photographer! We certainly can't shoot it ourselves. Like everyone else looking for a photographer, there are so many things to consider.
The quality of the work was our first consideration. I noticed that all of the studios they asked me to look at were showing samples much like our own work. Not a big surprise there! We wanted someone who could shoot the candid documentary style as well as the traditional posed shots.
Although we did review a few photographers in the Santa Rosa area, we decided it would be best to select someone in the Sacramento area and pay their location fees. There are going to be a lot of visits to the photographer, to discuss the wedding schedule, review the images, pick up the albums etc. It just makes sense to work with someone closer to your home. A good wedding photographer should be able to work with any location so we could see no advantage to having one who lived in that area.
Price is of course always a consideration! You pay for what you get!!!!! Like everyone else, we have a budget but photography is not where we want to cut corners. You can't go back and
re shoot this important day. Finding someone with experience and talent is worth every penny.
We looked for someone who Shannon and Matt will enjoy spending time with.
Our attitude about photography is that if you are not having a great time, why would you feel like smiling?
So where did we find our photographer? At our last wedding fair, while checking out the other vendors, Shannon discovered her. We liked her photography, we liked her style, and we really liked her. We hired Amber owner of Shoops Photography in Folsom! Even more exciting, she won the best photographer nomination for 2009 in the Sierra Style Magazine, an honor that we usually win, needless to say we are honored to place 2nd.
So look out Amber! We will give you a good challenge this year for that prestigious award and we are excited to have you capture the most important event in our lives!
