Wedding Bells are ringing for K. Walker Studios

In early April of this year Matt (our son and my partner of photography) proposed to his lovely lady; Shannon. We are so delighted, excited and happy for them.
So wedding plans are in the works. Wedding is set for June 11, 2011. Location has been chosen, Santa Rosa, on a 4 acre ranch with a big barn. The gown has been selected. Lots of details have been covered, some will be adjusted as the plans move forward.
One of the biggest decisions was hiring the wedding photographer! We certainly can't shoot it ourselves. Like everyone else looking for a photographer, there are so many things to consider.
The quality of the work was our first consideration. I noticed that all of the studios they asked me to look at were showing samples much like our own work. Not a big surprise there! We wanted someone who could shoot the candid documentary style as well as the traditional posed shots.
Although we did review a few photographers in the Santa Rosa area, we decided it would be best to select someone in the Sacramento area and pay their location fees. There are going to be a lot of visits to the photographer, to discuss the wedding schedule, review the images, pick up the albums etc. It just makes sense to work with someone closer to your home. A good wedding photographer should be able to work with any location so we could see no advantage to having one who lived in that area.
Price is of course always a consideration! You pay for what you get!!!!! Like everyone else, we have a budget but photography is not where we want to cut corners. You can't go back and
re shoot this important day. Finding someone with experience and talent is worth every penny.
We looked for someone who Shannon and Matt will enjoy spending time with.
Our attitude about photography is that if you are not having a great time, why would you feel like smiling?
So where did we find our photographer? At our last wedding fair, while checking out the other vendors, Shannon discovered her. We liked her photography, we liked her style, and we really liked her. We hired Amber owner of Shoops Photography in Folsom! Even more exciting, she won the best photographer nomination for 2009 in the Sierra Style Magazine, an honor that we usually win, needless to say we are honored to place 2nd.
So look out Amber! We will give you a good challenge this year for that prestigious award and we are excited to have you capture the most important event in our lives!

Today kicked off Lambs and Bunnies 2010. This is our tenth year photographing this unique portrait event. It is often the first time a child gets to meet, touch and pet a baby bunny or lamb.
Many families have made it a tradition.
Lovely Ella was featured on our add piece this year, her portrait from 2009 just captured everything I love about the children and the animals.
So today was even extra special because Ella has a new baby sister! We choose to photograph their session at our down town studio. While taking my lunch walk the other day I discovered a sweet little court yard at an attorney's office nearby.
When we arrived to shoot there today, I was a little dismayed to discover that the gates were closed and locked. Still I thought it was beautiful background, I learned a long time ago that you have to be flexible and have a backup plan. So we began to shoot in front of the closed gate.
Then...... one of those wonderful things happened. The attorney saw us working from his window and was kind enough to come down open the gate just for us.
I felt truly blessed, Camilla blossoms covering the ground, and raining petals on them. The bunnies were delightful and the children just yummy!

Spring is here even if the calendar doesn't agree.
Here in the Sacramento Valley, the trees are full of blossoms. It is a great time for family portraits. The time window is small, the first week of March is going to be the best.
But no worries, if you can't make the time.
I was driving in the rain the other day and came across a beautifully landscaped pond and rock walls featuring arches in the middle of nowhere. It is the entrance to a set of new homes but off the beaten path and accessible for anyone to enjoy. I am planning on photographing our family there soon!

It's almost that time of year again.

Welcome to a new year. 2010 is is all ready a month old.
Matt and I have bee so busy in the last month accomplishing something that is monumental for us as a family, and as business partners.
We opened up our new studio, Flaunt Images in downtown Sacramento. It is located at 1123 18th street, near the corner of L Street. Matt is loving it. Already, he has shot the designer line of Caren Templet, a talented women's clothing designer in Sacramento.
In addition, we have been working diligently on our home studio location in Orangevale and preparing for the much awaited relocation from our Greenback location to our home studio.
The offices and shooting rooms are now complete. Next we tackle our larger studio building on the property. 2010 will be mean lots of hammering, sawing and painting. Sounds fun to me! The end result will be a super large main studio, where we can offer both indoor and outdoor poses during a regular session.
